Terms of Service
Last updated: 31 August 2026
By using ShelfShare, you agree to the rules below. They are written in plain language, without unnecessary legalese.
Questions: [email protected].
1. What ShelfShare is
ShelfShare is a place where people put their books on display so they can swap, give away or sell them to each other. The app connects you and gives you a chat — that is all.
We are not a party to the transactions between you. We do not sell books, do not ship them, do not process payments, do not verify their condition and do not guarantee that anyone keeps their word. The agreement is strictly between the two users.
2. Your account
- You must be at least 16 years old.
- One account per person. Duplicate accounts may be deleted.
- You are responsible for what happens through your account, so keep your password to yourself.
- The information in your profile must be genuine. Do not impersonate anyone.
3. What you may not do
- List anything other than books and reading-related items.
- Sell pirated books, scanned copies or material that infringes copyright.
- Harass, threaten or insult anyone, in chat or in comments.
- Post illegal or obscene content, or content that incites hatred.
- Send spam, advertise, or lure users to other platforms.
- Post fake listings, misleading prices or descriptions that hide significant defects.
- Attempt to break into, overload or automatically scrape the app.
- Publish someone else's personal data without their consent.
4. Exchanges and sales between users
You arrange everything: the price, the place, how the book changes hands and any payment. Payments do not go through the app.
A few suggestions that are common sense rather than rules: meet in public places, check the book before handing over money, and keep the conversation in the app's chat so there is a record if something goes wrong.
If a dispute arises, you resolve it between yourselves. We can only step in to the extent that someone breaks the rules above — for example by suspending an account — but we cannot recover money or books.
5. Content you upload
Your photos, descriptions and reviews remain yours. You only grant us the right to display them in the app and on the website for as long as you keep them published, so they can do their job: be seen by other users.
By uploading a photo, you confirm that you took it or that you have the right to use it.
We may remove content that breaks the rules, without being obliged to review everything that gets published in advance.
6. Badges, premium and donations
The app is free. The "premium" and "supporter" badges are granted manually and currently involve no payment processed through the app.
Donations through the PayPal link on the "About dev" page are voluntary, help pay for the server and the domain, and do not buy you features, priority or any additional rights. They are non-refundable.
7. Account suspension
We may suspend or delete an account that breaks the rules, endangers other users, or disrupts the platform. Where circumstances allow, we will tell you and explain why.
You can delete your account at any time from Settings. Deletion becomes permanent after 15 days, during which you can change your mind — the details are in the privacy policy.
8. Availability and liability
ShelfShare is a personal, free project hosted on a home server. It can go down, it can have bugs, and it can lose data.
The app is provided "as is", without warranties as to uninterrupted operation, the accuracy of book information (which comes from external sources) or the behaviour of other users.
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for damages arising from use of the app, from transactions between users, or from the service being unavailable. Nothing in this paragraph limits the rights granted to you by consumer protection law that cannot be waived.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top of the page shows the last change, and for significant changes we notify you in the app. If you do not agree with the new terms, you can delete your account.
10. Governing law
Romanian law applies. If you are a consumer, you may contact the Romanian National Authority for Consumer Protection (anpc.ro) or the European online dispute resolution platform.
